Our values
Since 1860, civil engineers have worked independently, responsibly, and with high quality for their clients in approximately 60 specialized fields. They provide outstanding services whose full complexity is often difficult to assess from the outside.
Civil engineers do not sell anything that can be measured by commercial standards. For this reason, their collaboration with clients is based on a close relationship of trust. Engineers understand that they can only earn this trust by acting in accordance with their professional ethos. The ethical principles of the profession are enshrined in professional conduct rules, which remain relevant and valid despite the passage of time.
Values such as responsibility, independence, and quality justify the trust that clients and society place in civil engineers. Aware of their high level of responsibility, they take their clients’ concerns seriously and carry out their tasks diligently, conscientiously, and loyally. However, their obligations extend beyond their clients.
The responsibility they assume covers all aspects of our environment. Caring for the well-being of the broader public includes areas such as safety, health, quality of life, the environment, culture, and traditions—all of which are central to the work of a civil engineer. This also entails the duty to incorporate practical experience into education, research, legislation, and its application.
The independence of civil engineers enables them to develop optimal solutions for any given task. Integrity, transparency, objectivity, avoidance of conflicts of interest, and the principle of dual control are fundamental to demonstrating this independence externally. This independence can only be maintained through appropriate remuneration for engineering services.
Civil engineers possess the highest level of qualification, knowledge, and experience in their field. To maintain this high standard, continuous learning and professional development are essential.
For this quality to benefit the customer, access to the profession must be regulated according to high-quality standards. The excellence of engineering services relies not only on individual dedication but also on constructive collaboration among colleagues from the same or complementary fields. Mutual respect and consideration are essential when dealing with colleagues and employees, regardless of gender, age, or cultural background.
Anyone who chooses the profession of civil engineering does so out of a sense of vocation. This profession is represented by a strong and self-confident professional organization that ensures adherence to shared values within the industry while also taking responsibility in the public sphere.
